For the past week I've been melting my brain away, working till the wee hours of the morning making some progress on these fashion show garments . Here's some pics of what I have so far, let me know what you think!!! Really!!
First off, this is my 2' x 3' drafting/cutting/ironing/sewing/serging table. I know you feel sympathetic ;) but I've made this work for me so far...sigh...really though, I'm really looking forward to upgrading one day.
This look is a bit basic after sewing up the majority of it. The idea was to add visual interest by creating the vest piece which has an asymmetrical cut but I'm not sure it'll be enough. Edits will ensue...I'm sure I'll add some fancy style back pockets to the trouser shorts (yeah! I used the same fabric from a previous project so what?! Yeah, I bought the entire bulk from SCRAP? so what?! I'm in love with it!) and possibly a safari style jacket instead of the vest...we'll see.
My jumper is coming along great! I'm fairly satisfied with my progress so far but a bit scared about how I will handle finishing the armhole and attaching the bodice to the skirt. I've added a peek-a-boo cut out to the back and I think it was successful. The hidden buttonhole placket wasn't as difficult to sew as I imagined it would be with this upholstery-like fabric.
Boy aren't you all just sitting on the edge of seat filled with suspense at all these almost finished projects?!!

meet me on mercury
The past couple days I've been a complete zombie. You miss one nights worth of sleep and its as if your life turns upside down and you don't know what's real or what's an illusion. Getting just passed that 24th hour is usually the most difficult part. Being confined to my subzero degree room, while all is quiet and still, slowly cutting and sewing fabric in a rather lame effort to not make any noise for fear your roommate and neighbors will hate you, just plain and simply sucks! By the 35th hour of this cognizant dream state, interacting with other humans almost creates this distraction so my brain had almost forgotten that it never had a night of rest. Coming home and working away as usual and by the 40th hour I became extremely exhausted but didn't want to sleep for fear of never waking up again....well, yes I'm being suuuper dramatic but that's what was going on! Here's what else. I've been working on creating a jacket I had sketched up months ago and decided to create the pattern for it for my pattern drafting class. My group came up with a theme of futuristic chic and named this Meet me on Mercury. Our styles were based around the idea of dressing up for a date on Mercury. We had vibrant shades of blues, a bit of silver and a splash of magenta in our swatches. The fabric I chose was not my original game plan. I figured rather than spend more money on fabric I could use what I had on hand. The fabric that I got from SCRAP a few weeks ago is the perfect color and weight. I've got the out side layer and lining sewn together. Just need to figure out what types of interfacing and padding to use to build up the shawl collar and angular sleeve, both of which are new styles to me. Then I need to attach the belt and the asymmetrical hem will be hand-stitched to enclose everything! Let me know what you think! Feel free to leave a comment!

pattern drafting
Update on the contour pattern I was developing on Sunday afternoon: I got a chance to fit the empire waist top on the dress form today. It seemed to fit everywhere except at the bust...I tried! Well, after inquiring my instructor for some direction I was informed that I tried to put too much fit into the bust dart. I have several options to fix this but I'll have to revise my design for the front bodice.

pattern drafting
Working on some homework for pattern drafting on this rainy Sunday...contouring to be specific. I came up with a simple design with a low asymmetrical neckline and empire waist. I figured this practice will help me in other designs since I seem to be obsessed with this particular neckline and I haven't quite figured out how to create a nicely fitted empire waist.

The design at the bottom of the page is what I'm aiming for. Pictures of the fit to come later!
