Required Reading for People Who Work in Fashion, Want to Work in Fashion, or Simply Love Fashion

Fashionista compiled a good list of fashion must-reads. It reminded me I needed to finish two books that I abandoned about 6 months ago - Career Distinction and The Fashion Designer Survival Guide. (Goal: Finish Career Distinction by Tuseday...since I'm borrowing it and all) Hope you find the list useful...I know there are so many books I'd love to just be able to upload into my brain...but that's just silly of me to think. ;P

dirty hands

Last night I was passing the Roxie in SF to go eat and noticed the David Choe documentary was showing. I'm so glad I didn't pass up this limited opportunity to watch this. If you haven't seen it yet, GO! Last night to see it at the Roxie is Saturday night...here's the trailer.

sebastian kim

After reading an interview between Sebastian Kim and the Cut I felt obligated to study. Having apprenticed under Richard Avedon, Sebastian's work is truly amazing. Well, I don't want to state what's obvious. Here are some photos by Sebastian Kim. If you decide to re-post these pics please give credit where credit is due! There are probably more incredible examples of his work here.

new look

bustier finished!

So aside from all my other ongoing projects (ie. flesh., fashion show, pattern drafting class, and photo shoots (I'll have photos upload on those as soon as I get access to a cd drive)) I've also been working on a bustier. I was absolutely in love with my fabric finds so it took me a while on this one. After mulling over every detail I finally have it done! I wanted this to be so much more interesting in terms of the cut but I think what I gained from this was an excellent fit...can't complain. Well time to eat! ;P

Hope and The Cardigans

Hope, a Swedish label by the designer Ann Ringstrand, teams up with The Cardigans lead singer, Nina Persson, to collaborate on a collection and the results are adorable. As of lately I've been quite fond of any label that offers a unique twist on the tulle skirt...you see, I scored some great tulle the other day which instantly planted some ideas in my brain....I just need the time to experiment with it!! Would any of you readers jump on this tulle skirt trend?

remember now

Karl Lagerfeld's short film Remember Now, which showed during the launch of his 2011 Chanel Cruise Collection in Saint Tropez, is out for viewing. The film was an artistic venture Karl Lagerfeld explored to portray the life lived in Saint Tropez. Yes...wouldn't it be fun if everyone could live in this fantasy world where we were all beautiful creatures dancing and partying our days away in sparkly band-aids more expensive then your mortgage and passing out next to extraordinary model bodies ALL before waking up to have lunch with none other than Karl himself? With all snarkyness aside...I felt compelled to watch this because it's Karl's creation. Really...is there anything he does NOT do?! Still though...I'd like to see something a little more artistic than this...do you agree??

flesh.

I woke up to this article in Daily Candy this morning and flesh. was mentioned in an announcement of the new Wonderland Boutique. Even more interesting, well, maybe just for me, I find out that I'm selling my line next to the label I first interned for, gr.dano! What a great reminder to get my butt out of bed and go to class! ;P I spent today drafting some patterns for the designs I have in mind and they're looking cuuute!

Check out the other articles that Wonderlands been featured in by clicking on the photos.

pinch me

I'm not really sure if this is really happening or not....I'm pretty sure it is but still...disbelief consumes me. I had a meeting with Irene, founder of Chillin' Productions, to bring over my flesh. products to her very-soon-to-be gallery/boutique to sell in her space. This gallery/boutique is called Wonderland SF and is located at 2929 24th Street, San Francisco, CA and due to open Thursday, May 6th. So there you have it, flesh., my trial run lingerie line's first retailer! Doin' my happy dance now...

Aaaaand back to designing!!!

post chillin'

It's the night after Chillin' Productions where I debuted my first lingerie line. The amount of work that has gone into flesh. was quite incredible, on a physical and emotional level - we're talking about back pains, headaches from no sleep, course grades dropping, demons I battle in my head that filled me with doubts, and weekend after weekend of disciplining that party mode I was so vulnerable to slip into. This sounds like pure hell but in all honesty...I would do it again...in a heartbeat. The event was more than gratifying for me and I hope to take this concept and expand it into something great. Here are some photos of my booth.

Thanks to all who came out to support!! And a special thanks to Matt Chambers who's a genius at lighting. AND an even more special thanks to Joey Lin whom I could not have made the night physically possible without!!

Please stay tuned to find out where you can buy flesh.!!
